1 oz Silver & 1 oz Gold coins depict an ornate Irish harp flanked on both sides by four-leaf clovers.
The design is a salute to the Irish history of the island - the only place outside of Ireland where St. Patricks Day is a national holiday (and celebrated all week long!).
Irish-Catholic indentured servants became the first European settlers of Montserrat when they were shipped out from neighboring St Kitt’s in 1632.
They proliferated as sugar and lime barons and in 1768, 70% of the inhabitants of Montserrat identified as Irish. The nickname, "The Emerald Isle of the Caribbean" is derived from its visual resemblance to coastal Ireland and for its strong Irish ancestry.
